  • We usually wear green to avoid getting pinched by our friends and family, but do you know we should really wear blue? According to Mental FlossSaint Patrick himself would have to deal with pinching on his feast day and his color was “Saint Patrick’s blue.” It was a light shade of blue, but around the 18th century, the color green became associated with St. Patrick’s day after it was linked with the Irish independence movement.
  • Did you know that Saint Patrick was actually British? It is true! He was born to Roman parents in Scotland or Wales in the late 14th century.
  • The New Yorkers, Chicago, and of course the Irish take St. Patrick’s Day very seriously.
  • There isn’t actually corn in corn beef. Corn beef is a usual St. Patrick’s day meal, but it doesn’t have anything to do with the grain corn.
  • Did you know that it could have been Saint Maewyn’s Day? According to the Irish legend, Saint Patrick wasn’t originally called Patrick. His birth name was Maewyn Succat, but he changed his name after he became a priest.
  • Last but not least, they aren’t any female leprechauns, so don’t be fooled by the decorations!

Those were six facts about St. Patrick’s Day! Now, you can tell your teachers, your friends, and your family these six fun facts. Do you have any fun facts you would like to share? Comment below!
